Quasi als Side Event der EPT wird in Barcelona die Estrellas Poker Tour ausgetragen, die einige Spitzenspieler aus der ganzen Welt anzog. Auch die deutschen Spieler waren sehr zahlreich vertreten, neben etwa Dominik Nitsche, Sandra Naujoks und Giuseppe Pantaleo entrichteten auch die beiden EPT-Sieger Martin Finger und Michael Eiler das Startgeld von 1.100 Euro.
Auch der Chipleader nach dem ersten Turniertag kam aus Deutschland. Leider jedoch lief es für den ehemaligen Full Tilt Million Euro Challenge-Sieger Thomas Butzhammer an Tag 2 nicht annähernd so gut wie zu Beginn. Der Bayer konnte seine Führung nicht in Zählbares umwandeln und schied noch vor den Preisgeldrängen aus. Dasselbe Schicksal erlitt Sandra Naujoks, die allerdings auch als Short Stack in den zweiten Tag gegangen war.
Vertreten werden die deutschen Farben an Tag 3 noch von Martin Finger, Pierre Mothes, Michael Eiler und Khalil Youssafi, wobei Finger, der Sieger der EPT Prag, als Elfter des Leaderboards die besten Chancen hat.
Angeführt wird das Feld vom Italiener Lorenzo Sabato, der 1,185 Millionen Chips eintüten konnte und damit erster Anwärter auf die Siegprämie von 200.000 Euro ist. Insgesamt beträgt der Preisgeldfonds über 1 Million Euro.
Heute geht es für die 49 verbliebenen Spieler darum, sich einen Platz am Finaltisch zu sichern, an dem dann morgen die Entscheidung fällt. Die Chancen der deutschen Spieler sind dabei gar nicht so schlecht, machen sie doch knapp 10 Prozent des restlichen Feldes aus.
