Während fast alle Aufmerksamkeit der Pokerwelt derzeit auf das Millionen-Turnier der WSOP gerichtet ist, wurde im $1,5k NLH-Turnier eine nicht enden wollende Schlacht geschlagen.
Gleich 3.166 Spieler fanden sich vor drei Tagen ein, um ein Preisgeld von 4,2 Millionen Dollar auszuspielen. Immerhin 28 schafften es in den dritten Tag und standen vor der Mammut-Aufgabe, innerhalb eines Tages den Sieger zu ermitteln. Eventuell sollten die Organisatoren der WSOP für das nächste Jahr eine Änderung der Struktur in Betracht ziehen, denn bei einem Großteil der Turniere sind die Spieler am Final-Tag gezwungen, 13 oder mehr Stunden zu spielen und werden nicht selten erst nach 3 Uhr nachts fertig.
In diesem Turnier war einer der prominentesten Finalisten Victoria Coren. Doch sie hatte verhältnismäßig zeitig Feierabend. Auf einem K 9 8 Flop hatte sie nach einem Preflop-Raise mit Ax Kx Top-Pair getroffen und ging nach einem Raise ihres Gegnern, Randy Ashe für knapp 40 Big Blinds All-In. Sonderlich wohl war ihr bei dem All-In nicht und ihr Unmut war berechtigt. Ashe hatte mit 8x 8x ein Set getroffen und war enormer Favorit. Nach zwei Blanks musste Coren auf Platz 17 liegend das Turnier verlassen.
Schnell war der Final-Table gefunden, doch an diesem kam die Action fast zum Erliegen und so brauchte es über 6 Stunden, bis das Heads-Up feststand.
Vladimir Mefodichev und Neil Willerson hießen die Duellanten, wobei Mefodichev mit einer gehörigen Führung startete. Diese legte sich jedoch wieder recht fix und zwischenzeitlich lag Willerson mit mehr als 3:1 Chips in Front. Doch konnte Mefodichev wieder aufholen und nach insgesamt 14 Stunden einigte man sich schließlich darauf, dass Duell zu vertagen. So wird erst am morgigen Dienstag der Sieger ermittelt.
